ORNAT2000 biodiversity training courses
Action B.1.1 of the Erasmus+ project involving partners from Italy, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Hungary, coordinated by the Valsugana and Tesino Community, was the organization in each territory of a course to bring citizens closer to the topic of biodiversity.
In Valsugana, the activity took place involving a group of young people from ANFFAS Trentino, therefore with some disabilities, who were carried out a series of classroom lessons that were followed by outings in the territory between 2022 and early 2022 to get to know some of the protected areas of the Brenta River Reserves Network: the provincial nature reserves (and “Natura2000” areas) Lago Pudro, Inghiaie and Fontanazzo, the local Barucchelli reserve and the bed of the Centa stream.
The activity ended on September 22, 2022 with the boys becoming “nature guides for a day” by accompanying a group of local administrators to explore the Lake Pudro nature reserve. In the previous months, the boys authored a video presentation of the same protected area.
During the 2021-22 school year, 17 online meetings were held with as many Trentino schools illustrating the biodiversity features of the area.
The Marijampole Kuribos centras (Lithuania) organized “Green stop,” a nonformal education program involving ten educational institutions in the Marijampole area with modules focusing on: increasing awareness of the importance of the environment, knowledge of the area’s biodiversity, building tools by recycling materials, and developing creativity.
Champions factory (Bulgaria) organized in Sofia in October 2022, in cooperation with the Bulgarian orienteering federation and the ecology faculty of the National Sport Academy, a course on biodiversity aimed at students in the ecology faculty. The topics covered what biodiversity is and how to preserve it, the value the dangers to which biodiversity is subjected at the local level, the protection of natural areas, the richness and diversity of tree and shrub species in the Vitosha Arboretum, and finally an in-depth look at the Vitosha “Natura 2000” area.
Vas megyei Tájékozódási Futó Szövetség (Hungary) finally, in cooperation with the Sibaris Association, organized a similar course focusing on the Kőszegi-hegység “Natura 2000” area in the Sopron region.
